I grew up in a "do-it-yourself" household in rural Germany and was taught by my dad to do almost anything around the house. He was an aircraft engineer by training and believed in everything can be made exactly how you want it and at great quality. I started mowing the lawn at the age of 6 embarking on the career of a journeyman for the next decade. I learned trimming trees, building fences, roofing, carpentry, fixing appliances and cars and many more things from him. One of my first "own" projects at the age of 12 was to build a bike trailer for hauling my windsurfer to the local pond with the road bike. His motto - if it was not perfect it must be redone.
